It was never quiet background noise on any setting, died a slow death of quirky clunks, pings and pops, refused to oscillate it's full path without parts rubbing at each end of the path, and the plastic oscillation control came off in hand this week. Last night it finally just stopped working, slowly stopping completely while still on.
Casablanca used to have a well deserved reputation as the best fan, and the very expensive ceiling fan that is still functioning perfectly in our former sunroom after 20 years is mostly the reason I was willing to pay so much for this desk fan. I'll be side eyeing them for a long time. Trust that you can pick up a comparably noisy, but longer lived fan for a tenth of this price here at Amazon or at any local store.
