(More customer reviews)I bought this product so that I would be able to turn off my sound amplifier from the opposite side of my 2-story house. I play music using a Sonos system controlled wirelessly by an iPod Touch. At the end of the day, when I'm upstairs and it's time to retire, I can turn the Sonos system off wirelessly, but the amplifier that the Sonos is connected to will stay on all night, drawing a lot of electricity. I now keep the remote control for this gizmo at my bedside. When I want to turn off the amplifier, I simply push the button on the remote. It works instantly and perfectly every time through all the walls and floors that separate my second-story bedroom from the amplifier on the first floor.
I wish I could say that I can also turn the amplifier back on using this gizmo, but unfortunately my Harmon Karmon amplifier doesn't work that way. Pushing the button on the remote control for this controller just puts the amplifier back into standby mode, and I then need to either use the Harmon Karmon remote or press a button on the amplifier to turn the amplifier back on. Also, in order to avoid having to carry the remote for this controller back downstairs again the next morning, I had to plug the mother unit for this device into a plug where it's easily accessible (not hidden behind the entertainment cabinet), so that I can press a button on the mother unit itself to turn the power back on the next day.
